I moved to Wyoming from Las Vegas, and did so to escape the 2 million or so people who lived life at breakneck speeds. I love living here because of the lack of people. That being said, it is ridiculous for anyone to think that Hollywood will ever film in Wyoming. Having worked as a stagehand I can tell you right now, Wyoming is a logistics nightmare. The time and money required to film here would be to extensive for a full film project. So what if it was filmed in New Mexico, it was just a movie to make Wyoming look stupid anyways. It wasn't even GOOD, so I am happy they cannot put FILMED IN WYOMING on the credits.

I'm afraid that I agree with "K". The article was lacking in content. And yes, even the movie review was not a review. I would have enjoyed a more in depth examination of the movie industry and Wyoming as suggested by the article's title.

Love Wyofile, just not the article. Thank You

The Real Problem

Anyone who has worked on films can tell you that real problem for filming in Wyoming is access. Productions need ready access to all sorts of things from multiple daily flights for everything from dailies to the odd item that must be made up in the city (ex. a newspaper with a particular front page or a costume item) and delivered within 24 hours. They can't wait for a once a day flight that goes through several other cities and may or may not match a delivery schedule on the other end. Even some odd lumberyard item is probably not available in Wyoming's smaller towns and sending someone to drive 4-5 hours each way to get it just isn't an option. Our cell phone coverage is spotty to non-existant. There are huge electrical needs and housing needs for large crews. The caterers also cannot fly in their food in a timely fashion and massive amounts of high end food is required. You'd be hard pressed to find most of it outside of Jackson.

It is sad that what Wyoming has to offer film companies IS, for the most part, just the scenery and even that can be found in more accessible places than Wyoming.

Let's admit it. Many of us live here because no one else does. We put up with what we can't get for what we have: a relaxed lifestyle in a beautiful place. While we think everyone should see, understand and envy that, this is simply not a place that will work for most big business operations of many kinds and film production companies are even more needy than most.

As a part-time resident of Wyoming (Cody) I can tell you that the representation of this "sleepy little town" is anything but accurate and I find it incredibly insulting to the intelligence of Cody's residents (or any of the towns in Wyoming!) to be represented in this manner. At least Hollywood had the decency to use a fictitious name, Ray, Wyoming. Cody is a small but bustling town with all the modern conveniences of NYC, just not as much in demand or abundance. The Yellowstone Regional Airport portrayed in this movie has one of the highest security teams in the country. I know! They found something in my own luggage once that I did not even know was there and had been missed by at least 5 other national and regional airports, including Tampa, Charlotte and Atlanta! The people out west are of no less intelligence, nor awareness of their surroundings than anywhere else. In fact, most move their by choice or remain there their whole life because of the warm, friendly locals, the beautiful surroundings and the comfort in knowing that it is a safe place to live, work and raise a family. Hollywood still has a lot to learn in the way it portraits the American west past and present!

Most of the movies I've seen lately, should have been shot at dawn!

I wonder why nobody ever brings up the fact that Hollywood production companies are heavily unionized and Wyoming is a Right To Work state ? The only thing Wyoming possibly has to offer film studios , besides the scenery , is cheap Second World labor. But the Hollywood shops aren't into scabs.

The scenery can be had elsewhere, too. Most films scripted for Wyoming seem to be shot in Alberta .

Out of 27 paragraphs, only 7 address Wyoming's "film woes", and only to state that they have them due to lack of tax incentives. The rest of the article is supposed to be a "review", but isn't. It's a synopsis, which I could find on just about any other film site and in a much more concise form. I'd really like to read about films made in the west, and I thought that's what I'd be reading about here, but there was no story here. This was superficial at best.

Movie incentives are a crock. If Hollywierd wants to shoot an authentic location film they should be willing to pay their own danged freight. This star-boinking scam is just a race to the bottom for a bit part.
