Sweetwater GOP censures lawmakers Brady, McCann over campaign checks

Following an hours-long convention, the Sweetwater County Republican Party voted to censure Rep. Marlene Brady, R-Green River, and Rep. Darin McCann, R-Rock Springs. The measure passed with a 37-29 vote. At the heart of the censures was the controversy dubbed “Checkgate,” which stems from the lawmakers receiving campaign checks on the House floor from Jackson activist Rebecca Bextel in February. While a legislative committee previously cleared the pair of rules violations, local party members argued the act was a breach of ethics and public trust, the Rocket Miner reports. Lincoln County GOP censures Rep. Andrew Byron over voting pattern

The Lincoln County Republican Party censured Rep. Andrew Byron, saying its members have “no confidence” in the two-term Hoback Republican. Byron represents constituents from both Lincoln and Teton counties. The GOP voted March 7, just a few days before the Wyoming Legislature adjourned from the 2026 budget session. In the resolution calling for his censure, the party said Byron’s voting record demonstrates “a persistent and deliberate pattern of votes in direct opposition to the Republican Party Platform and the clearly stated priorities of Republican voters,” the Jackson Hole News&Guide reports. After representatives from RDO Equipment argued that the county’s requirements were written exclusively for Caterpillar machinery, commissioners unanimously voted to table the motor grader bid for two weeks, allowing for a formal rebuttal against claims that the county’s process ignores lower-priced John Deere alternatives, Oil City News reports.
