WyoFile joined a coalition of nonprofit newsrooms in six Western states to examine how the changes are impacting our ability to fight fires amid increasingly destructive conditions.
Amy Alonzo, The Nevada Independent
Amy Alonzo joined The Nevada Independent in May of 2023 to cover the environment and energy. Based in Reno, she most recently covered the outdoors, environment and wildfires for the Reno Gazette-Journal. Prior to her six years with the RGJ, she worked at papers across the West and back East, amassing more than two decades of experience as a reporter and photographer. She's won accolades in each of the states she's worked in, and in 2019, the Nevada Press Association named her "Outstanding Journalist" for her work covering rural Nevada. When she's not working, you'll find her rock climbing, trail running or backpacking across the Eastern Sierra and Western Nevada. Or, if you catch her at home on a rare rest day, you'll find her working in her garden and hanging out with her family, chickens and dog.
