Public hearing draws dozens as utility seeks major rate hike

More than 50 Sheridan County residents gathered Wednesday to learn about a proposed 24% hike in electric rates from Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. The company serves ratepayers between Ranchester, Acme, Sheridan, Big Horn and Story. Many Sheridan residents voiced outrage about the large increase, citing economic turbulence, a rising cost of living and vulnerable senior and low-income populations, The Sheridan Press reports. Affordability, health care, public lands echo as top concerns at listening sessions
