Sublette County residents identify risks to public lands

A recent public lands forum at the Pinedale Library named three top threats to wildlife and public lands in the region. Construction of the Dry Piney Helium and Carbon Sequestration Complex, potential changes to the Rock Springs Resource Management Plan and rewriting the Bridger-Teton National Forest plan made the list, according to The Pinedale Roundup. Fremont County Library Board member challenges removal

David Mossburg has filed a legal motion challenging a Fremont County decision to remove him from the library board after commissioners voted in October to reconsider a June vote. The Lander Journal challenged the legality of secret ballots used in June and asked the county to remedy its vote. When a new vote was taken, Mossburg was not selected. Read the full story.
Powell planning commissioner resigns in protest over at-will employment

A member of the city of Powell’s planning and zoning commission resigned in protest last month over the city’s decision to drop some protections for its employees. Myron Heny submitted his resignation in response to the city’s switch to at-will employment. A former city councilman and longtime city employee, Heny had served on the volunteer planning commission since 2015, plus a prior stint, the Powell Tribune reports. Read the full story.
Sweetwater County mulls future of emergency medical services

Sweetwater County is contracting with Castle Rock Hospital District and Ambulance Service to provide emergency medical services through June 30, 2027. But the question of who funds ambulance services, and how, is prompting county commissioners to look into other possibilities for the future, the Green River Star reports. Teton County commissioners wrestle with sentimental swine spectacle

For decades, costumed children and adults wrestled pigs at the Teton County Fair, aiming to stuff the swine in a barrel in less than a minute. Double D Livestock, of Greybull, provided the pigs until all the nightly events were canceled in 2020 due to the global pandemic. Potential wrestlers have had no pigs to wrangle since then. But fair officials may have found a new pig proprietor, the Jackson Hole Daily reports. Read the full story.
