State board dismisses complaint against teacher regarding student’s suicide

The Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board dismissed a complaint Monday against a teacher accused of neglecting an 11-year-old boy, which his family says led to him taking his life at school in 2023, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports. “The Investigative Committee believes, in good faith, that there is not clear and convincing evidence that the licensee engaged in incompetent conduct or acted in a manner that was grossly negligent,” a summary of the report states. Evanston steam engine restoration chugs along

Since August 2021, a group of volunteers has worked diligently to restore operating status to the Union Pacific 4420 steam locomotive engine in Evanston. Recently, in order to gain necessary oversight from the Federal Railroad Administration to certify the boiler of the locomotive for final legal operation, a railroad company needed to be established. The new entity will be called the Evanston Western Railroad, the Uinta County Herald reports. Read the full story.


Johnson County school board votes to reduce size

After years of revisiting and abandoning the idea, the Johnson County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees voted Monday to begin the process of moving from nine to seven board members. The most vocal advocates for the change point to concerns about finding enough people to fill all the board positions. Proponents have been particularly vocal ahead of this year’s election, as voters will have six positions to fill unless the board makes the change in time, the Buffalo Bulletin reports.
