Rep. Bill Allemand, R-Midwest, was arrested over the weekend and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, court records show.
A Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy pulled over Allemand at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Millers Travel Center in Buffalo for suspicious driving, according to a police report.
After the officer found an open can of beer in the center console alongside four unopened beers and a loaded pistol on the front passenger seat, Allemand admitted to drinking two beers 15 minutes before the stop, according to the report.
The “driver also admitted that he drinks while driving for anxiety,” Deputy Caleb Campbell wrote in the report.
Before being pulled over, Allemand had “started from a stop almost striking a vehicle approaching from the West,” according to the report. He then allegedly stopped abruptly prior to impact.
Allemand failed a field sobriety test and “had significant difficulty getting in and out of patrol vehicle requiring Deputy to support the driver as to not let him fall,” the report states.
Allemand did not respond to WyoFile’s request for comment by press time.
Since 2023, Allemand has represented House District 58, which encompasses a central section of northern Natrona County. He is a member of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus, a group of Republicans who won control of the House in 2024.
In the 2025 legislative session, Allemand sponsored a successful bill to clarify in state statute that gunning prairie dogs and some other species from trucks is legal on private land in Wyoming.
Allemand has been a staunch opponent of a proposal to build a nuclear microreactor manufacturing plant on the outskirts of Bar Nunn. Ultimately, California-based Radiant Industries, citing Wyoming’s ban on spent nuclear fuel waste, scrapped its plans near Bar Nunn and said it would build a manufacturing plant in Tennessee instead.
A jury trial has been set for May 1 following Allemand’s arrest, court records show.
A portion of the police report is illegible. A message left with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office records personnel was not returned by press time.

Great. Now I have driving anxiety.
I’m not okay with an anxious guy driving while tipsy/drinking beer with a loaded pistol at his side. This seems like a recipe for disaster.
Drinking and driving at noon, and he probably started even earlier. That’s alcoholism, folks. Hope the guy gets help, even if his politics are beyond help.
It’s frustrating to see elected officials behave as though the law doesn’t apply to them. This isn’t just about one arrest — it reflects a broader accountability problem in government. In Rawlins, people in positions of authority break the law and citizens are then forced to hire attorneys just to get them to follow it. We’ve even seen Governor Gordon step in to review complaints about county officials for alleged public-meeting violations, which shows how serious these issues have become. That is not how public service is supposed to work.
Seems to me there might be a medical professional or two who might be able to assist with anxiety issues rather than relying on an illegal activity to help with one’s problems.
The legendary “Prairie Dog Bill” Allemand! A true visionary. If only he had waited for his next great bill to pass…(drinking while driving for anxiety.) He should Not be held to the same standards as the rest of us plebs. This man is a pioneer!
In his defense, he’s probably not the only freedumb caucus member that would struggle with a field sobriety test.
If you’ve watched him speak on the House floor, this is the least surprising thing ever
I wonder how many more of the wonderful not so freedum cocass do the same thing and think it is OK.
I think he’s a good representative of the whole lot.
Remember that he is innocent until proven guilty . The foundation of our legal system tells us this is merely an accusation, an indeed it is. It is the words of a county employee against his. That is what this place is built on . Regardless of your political inclinations if we surrender these rights this country is doomed.
Sorry Ezra. He is innocent until proven guilty, but “Allemand admitted to drinking two beers 15 minutes before the stop, according to the report. The ‘driver also admitted that he drinks while driving for anxiety,’ “. Drinking while driving is against the law regardless of the level of intoxication. Perhaps the focus should be on getting him help for his illness.
Sorry Ezra but we don’t have to be too concerned with surrender of rights any longer. At the federal level they just take them when they want to now. They ignore the Constitution, US Congress, and the courts sometimes. Besides the cop had to help him get in to the patrol car.
You sure are right about that ! Ok I’ll pile on him then. There is something about Northeastern Wyoming that makes politicians drink. “Wild” Bill Notovny was drunk driving down the wrong side of the interstate there in Johnson County. His shenanigans didn’t seem to bother the populace too much as he was reelected after that ! I do understand though I get anxiety being in Buffalo too. It’s always colder and snowier than Casper, the town doesn’t have much to offer and the ground is so rocky you need an excavator to put up a mailbox. I don’t drink and drive to deal with it though, I just gas up and get on down the road.
Ok, so here’s the deal….there are numerous peeps out there that drive impaired. Is that ok to do? Nope, but don’t crucify him for it. What scares me more is his excuse why he drinks when he’s driving, and having a loaded pistol within arms reach.
Head to cowboystatedaily.com and hear his laughable defense. ‘It’s a false charge.’ Right, and drinking and driving is a good, sound idea? And whats with the loaded hand gun…in the center console….in town? Hunting people?? 🤣
I believe Allemand operates a oilfield trucking company. How would you like to meet him oncoming with him driving a 100,000+ pound oilfield semi tractor trailer at night on the two lane highway between Midwest and Wright?
And Wyoming’s republicans and Freedumb Caucus supporters will vote for Allemand and his cohorts again and again. Nothing like Wyoming voters voting against their own best interests every time they go to the polls.
All jokes aside, I’m concerned about this guy driving around drunk with a loaded pistol within reach. Maybe someone ought to check in on his family.
‘he drinks while driving for anxiety,’ I bet ole’ Bill is worried about the upcoming bloodbath in the 2026 mid-terms and the fall of MAGA and the UnFreedom Caucus. The day after the first Tuesday in 2026, bet he hits the bottle again and yes, the prairie dogs are laughing!
The law is for thee, not me.
Knowing one of our elected state representatives is this irresponsible in his daily life makes me “anxious”. It begs the question, what does he do when he’s supposed to be “governing”. Is he “anxious” there too? Somehow I’m not terribly shocked or surprised. He should do the manly, Wyoming, cowboy thing and resign.
Sounds like Alleman got a little ‘nuked up’ on some prairie dog pale ale. The pride of the UnFreedom Carcass and MAGA, maybe he can get Chump to pardon him
Ha! A prairie dog must of called REDDI and turned him in
This tracks. The Freedumb Caucus is the biggest “laws for thee, but for me” crowd in Wyoming.
Oh, the good freedumb caucus guy thought he had the FREEDOM to do what he wants. Be sure and vote this fake into office again so that you can keep the stupidity level the same in the Wyoming legislature.
I see nothing unusual or unexpected about any of this. S.O.P. for many a Wyoming gaffer.
I just hope Allemand is not caught legislating with a beer under his desk and four unopened beers and a loaded pistol in the seat next to him …
