Alta mogul skier Jaelin Kauf won her third Olympic silver medal — her second at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics — in a thrilling series of head-to-head races Saturday.
Kauf finished five points behind Australia’s Jakara Anthony in the inaugural Olympic event at Livigno, after fighting her way through earlier heats. She seemed all but doomed after taking a head-over-heels tumble in the semifinal against France’s Perrine Laffont.
But she gamely picked herself up and continued down the course.
Just then, unbelievably, Laffont skied out of the course. That disqualified her.
“Jaelin Kauf hung in there,” NBC commentator Trace Worthington said. The pro move by Kauf won her a spot against Anthony and guaranteed her at least a silver medal.

She started the final against Anthony well.
“Kauf has the speed right now,” Worthington said as Jaelin took a slim lead at the start of the race. But Kauf made a nearly imperceptible misstep after her first aerial move.
“That one ski pushing out catches the judges attention,” Worthington said. “It’s like a little bigger splash in diving.”
Anthony pulled ahead. Judges score the skiers on time, aerial maneuvers and skiing technique.
“It’s about the whole package, and Anthony has the whole package,” NBC analyst Hannah Kearney said. She put the run in context.
“Kauf took a nasty crash just minutes ago,” Kearney said.
After a few suspenseful moments at the finish area, judges awarded Anthony 20 points, Kauf 15.
NBC called Kauf “The mogul of moguls,” in a Facebook post. “Olympic milestone,” it read, “The most decorated moguls skier in U.S. Olympic history.”
Kauf won silver in the singles moguls Wednesday, her second silver following a similar finish at Beijing. Jackson native Breezy Johnson won the gold medal in the women’s downhill on Feb. 8.
Once again, Wyoming is on the Olympic scoreboard and Equality State viewers reacted.
“And that’s how Wyoming Women do it!!” Amy Larsen Clark, destination program manager for the Wyoming Department of Tourism, commented on the NBC post. “Way to go Jaelin!!”
Jackson native Anna Gibson is scheduled to race in the first-ever Olympic ski mountaineering mixed team relay event Feb. 21.
