Community members urge school district to scrap facilities use policy

Some community members want the Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees to scrap a draft facilities use policy. Written before the Wyoming Legislature’s recent budget session, the draft policy now has to be adjusted to comply with a new law signed by the governor in March. School districts in Wyoming can no longer charge rental fees to non-school sports and organizations in excess of the hourly rate of personnel, equipment, utility and supply costs actually incurred by the district for use of the property, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports. Sheridan County repeals property tax deferral program

Sheridan County participated in Wyoming’s property tax deferral program for nearly 30 years, but nobody used it. County commissioners voted to end it this week. In the unlikely event someone decided to participate in the program, and because it was not a significant burden on the assessor’s office staff, one commissioner wanted to keep the program. Ultimately, commissioners voted 4-1 to end it. Teton County is now the only county in the state participating in the program, The Sheridan Press reports. Read the full story.
Teton County bumps salaries for seven elected officials

The Teton County Board of County Commissioners voted to increase salaries for seven other elected officials. The county assessor, clerk, clerk of district court, county and prosecuting attorney, sheriff, and treasurer will all see their salaries increase to $153,700 a year starting in 2027. Those officials are currently paid $145,000. The county coroner’s salary will increase from $50,000 to $72,500, matching what county commissioners get paid. Commissioners made the decision without discussion. No one gave public comment, the Jackson Hole Daily reports. Read the full story.

Casper surgeon Dr. Kevin Helling has announced a run for Wyoming Senate District 27 as a Republican. The Casper native and founder of Precision Surgical, Helling’s campaign priorities include fiscal conservatism, defending the Second Amendment, pro-life advocacy and access to high-quality healthcare and mental health services. He’s running for a seat held by Sen. Bill Landen, who plans to retire from the Wyoming Senate after serving for 10 years. Read the full story.
