WyoFile is fundamentally a human enterprise. It exists to serve people, and its success in doing so depends upon the people — staff, board, freelance journalists, volunteers, members and readers — who compose the organization. Artificial intelligence technologies will not be used to replace any of these human roles or the people who perform them, and no use of AI at WyoFile will occur without human oversight.
WyoFile does not use AI to write or edit articles, make editorial decisions or manufacture false or misleading imagery. AI will never supplant journalists as the primary source of our reporting. WyoFile will follow the same ethical guidelines that we adhere to in our non-AI-assisted newsgathering and reporting.
AI tools may be used to expand, improve or make more efficient what WyoFile’s people are able to accomplish in service to our mission. Examples may include analysing data sets, comparing and contrasting public documents, monitoring public-meeting agendas, flagging trends and patterns, finding and retrieving primary source materials, drafting transcripts from interviews, summarizing our own reporting or adapting it for other media.
WyoFile’s staff will continue to engage with our readers, members, sources and subjects directly rather than relying on AI to communicate.
We will be transparent in our use of AI. We will maintain this public policy on WyoFile.com and disclose to readers when and how AI was used to assist in the production of anything we publish.
