Laramie County approves two controversial projects for AI data center

Despite emotional testimony from rural neighbors regarding lost views and potential water contamination, Laramie County commissioners unanimously approved a multibillion-dollar data center and power generation hub. While developers pledged to protect local drinking water by drilling into deep aquifers and using closed-loop cooling, residents lamented the industrialization of pasture land that will soon house 2.7 gigawatts of on-site natural gas power generation, Cap City News reports. Gillette airport sees 60,000-plus passengers for second straight year

In 2025, the Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport had its second-busiest year since the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, traffic in 2025 dropped 1% from 2024 after being 2% ahead halfway through the year. But it’s unlikely that 2026 will be able to match the previous two years’ numbers, due to commercial air service to Gillette being shut down from April 6 to May 21 for a runway repair project, the Gillette News Record reports. New Year’s Day snowmobile accident claims life of Afton man

A snowmobile accident southeast of Star Valley on New Year’s Day killed Jaram Arnold, 46, from Afton. Lincoln County received an emergency request from a satellite service for an injured snowmobiler near the La Barge Guard Station on the Bridger-Teton National Forest, but could not send a helicopter due to weather. The coroner is investigating the cause of death, but authorities have clarified that it was not the result of an avalanche.
