UW requests research proposals for ‘clean coal’
Last week the University of Wyoming’s School of Energy Resources issued a request for proposal (RFP) for “clean coal” with a very quick turn-around. Proposals must be submitted by July 13.
The RFP calls for research in the following categories:
— Research and development of new technologies that reduce emissions from coal
— Pilot-scale demonstration of emerging technologies
— Engineering scale-up of demonstrated technologies
— Integration and operation of carbon capture technologies

There’s a pot of $10 million available under the current RFP, which was appropriated by the 2012 Wyoming Legislature. The money comes from Wyoming’s portion of the Abandoned Mine Lands fund, and each applicant must bring forth a party willing to match their research project dollar-for-dollar. Projects may range from $100,000 to $3 million. A key requirement for proposals is that the research should aid in the use of Wyoming coal as a feedstock.
