Northwest College, foundation fund gap to avoid rising tuition

After a dip in enrollment last fall, Northwest College President Lisa Watson said the school is focused on next fall’s enrollment and how to not only prevent another dip, but bring in more new students. To that end, the college is avoiding passing on a tuition increase to students next year that was approved in March by the Wyoming Community College Commission. Together, the college with the Northwest College Foundation are covering the cost of the tuition increase for new and continuing degree-seeking students enrolling for the 2026-27 academic year, the Powell Tribune reports. Casper announces upcoming end to sixth-cent tax

Casper’s sales tax rate will return to 5% in the coming months, as the city recently reported the successful collection of funds for multiple municipal infrastructure projects. The tax rate had increased to 6% after voters approved a temporary Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax in November 2024 to fund a handful of projects. Casper Mayor Ray Pacheco said the tax will come to an end on July 1, Oil City News reports. Read the full story.
Cheyenne mayor: Threatening comments prompt shutdown of livestream chat

The Cheyenne City Council recently disabled commenting on Facebook livestreams due to recurring comments that Mayor Patrick Collins described as “threatening” and “not constructive.” All city council, committee and work session meetings are livestreamed on the city of Cheyenne’s Facebook and YouTube accounts. However, Collins said comments in the Facebook livestreams have taken a negative turn, prompting him to turn them off. A new regional effort to expand and coordinate outdoor recreation is gaining traction in southwestern Wyoming, as local stakeholders gathered in Kemmerer to discuss opportunities for Lincoln and Uinta counties. The Lincoln Uinta Outdoor Recreation Collaborative, established in February, is one of 12 collaboratives across the state working to promote responsible outdoor recreation, support local economies and protect public land access, the Kemmerer Gazette reports.
