WYDOT crews trigger huge Glory Bowl slide, closing Teton Pass

Teton Pass remains closed Monday after Wyoming highway crews used explosives to bring down a massive slide in Glory Bowl, burying the closed highway in up to 35 feet of dense snow and debris amid dangerous avalanche conditions. The avalanche — triggered to reduce hazards when the road is open — filled roughly 200 feet of roadway, challenging crews trying to clear and reopen the road. The avalanche was powerful enough to move what appeared to be a 100-ton boulder from high in the bowl down into the gully, the Jackson Hole Daily reports. Read the full story.


UW Athletics asks state to budget an extra $6 million

The University of Wyoming’s athletics department is asking the state for an extra $6 million for its budget in the next two years. This comes after a recent survey found a majority of Wyomingites say the department is important to the state’s and UW’s identity and prestige. Gillette nursing home restarts phased admissions after pause due to patient death

The Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center in Gillette will begin taking new residents again in mid-January 2026, following a pause on admissions. Campbell County Health’s long-term care and short-term rehab center halted admissions in 2025 to evaluate operations after the death of an 88-year-old dementia patient. Judith Duvall succumbed to exposure and hypothermia after walking out of the facility unnoticed, County 17 reports. Read the full story.


Park County taps leftover COVID-era money for law enforcement center HVAC

Park County commissioners are shifting $160,000 of leftover federal COVID-era funds to complete HVAC work at the Park County Law Enforcement Center in Cody. There are no unencumbered funds remaining from the $12 million in ARPA funds the county received, but some sizable sums have not yet been spent, the Powell Tribune reports. Read the full story.
